Turn L E F T

April 2017

Wood, foam-board, vinyl decal

Dimensions: L 130cm x W 36cm x H 210cm

'Turn L E F T' consists of a foam-board with vinyl decal sign, positioned on wooden sticks stuck on to a wooden stand. The sign has “turn left” written slanted coming off the sign, creating a notion of if it is falling. The sign is instructing the viewer to “turn left”, however this is impossible due to it being positioned against a brick wall. This creates a notion of absurdity as the sign becomes non-   functional. The sign is positioned slightly above head height, facing straight at the viewer, forcing the audience to be confronted with the text. The piece explores the idea of prop-up signs. Created in a placard style, the sign is flimsy and temporary looking. It builds upon the world of quick instant notifications, prop up signs and displaying information to a public audience. This absurd piece is part of a collection of work looking at design, absurdity and instructions.
